Looking at the story in John 5 of the man at the pool of Bethesda:

God made everyone equal so why then should someone’s destiny be based on another man? First of all there are many reasons why the man at the pool of Bethesda suffered for 38 years. If someone carried him to the pool it means they were ready to help him but must have got frustrated with him because of lack of faith or ambition. Why?

Look at the story in Mark 5:24-35 of the woman of the issue of blood who was almost in the same situation because the bible tells us that “much people thronged Him”, she had suffered for 12 years but she followed the following steps to get what she wanted:

1. When she heard about Jesus faith came to her because faith comes by hearing and by hearing the word of God – Jesus is the word become flesh;

2. She said to herself ‘if I may touch Jesus’ clothes – This shows us her mindset (way of thinking);

3. She pressed to touch Jesus – not only did she think of doing something she went ahead and acted (see this what is called faith mixed with action);

4. Straightaway she was healed – the bible tells us that she felt in her body that she was healed;

5. She testified – and Jesus said, “your faith has made you whole” not someone’s faith.

If she had not gone through the above steps she would have gone up to 38 years with her infirmity. I am not knocking Man of God or preachers I am just saying it’s your faith, zeal and desire to do well and fulfill your calling that takes you there. In Jeremiah 1:5 God said, before I formed you in your mother’s belly I knew you and in verse 10 He says I ordained you, and then he says in Jeremiah 29:11, I know the plans I have for you (good plans). The man of God is called to perfect the saints by teaching them the Word of God (Ephesians 4:11-13). Paul said, “to make all men see” because seeing they see not, hearing they understand not because their hearts are dull of hearing (Matthew 13:14-15).

The problem with the invalid man at the pool of Bethesda was ignorance or lack of light or not having faith at all or had all three. When Jesus showed up and asked him, ‘would you like to be healed?’ His answer was a complaint which was not an answer at all and it confesses his ignorance of who Jesus was and also explains the kind of man he was (a complainer) no wonder people stopped helping him. The reason why this man got healed was not his faith but the power of LOVE which produces compassion which was tabernacled in Jesus as He spoke the word “Rise up” – the power of the spoken word too. Jesus was the embodiment of life Himself. When He showed up solutions showed up, remember what He said in John 11:25, “I am the Resurrection and the life”.

Every person’s destiny lies in his hands. If you fail to achieve it you have yourself to blame. The bible says in 2 Peter 1:10, “Make your calling and election sure” NOT the man of God or pastor etc. Finally John 15:16 says, “… I called you to bear fruits and your fruits must last”.
