Christians spend most of their time trying to see what they cannot do, TRYING TO SEE HOW MUCH THEY CAN GET CLOSE TO SIN. In other words when people ask questions of; am I allowed to do this or that. Well the bible in 1 Corinthians 10:23 says, “All things are legitimate [permissible—and we are free to do anything we please], but not all things are helpful (expedient, profitable, and wholesome). All things are legitimate, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]”. You see, so you can do anything you want but ask yourself if it adds value to your life. One man of God once said the human being by nature likes to lean towards destruction or towards darkness, even Jesus said in John 3:19 that man love darkness rather than light. It’s natural because the world in which we are in is full of sin and Satan is the head of the system or the prince of the world. Remember darkness attracts whereas light repels. God put man in the earth to dominate it and to be fruitful and make sure that it is tilled well and taken care of NOT to be dominated by it. The reason why we are being dominated is because we have put ourselves under the authority of material things that are inanimate. For example addictions to smoking, drinking etc. if you cannot stop doing it you have been dominated by it.

It’s like what we have on the internet so far where people are attacking Pastor Chris Oyakhilome saying he approves of masturbation. Well, why can’t you ignore what he said and do whatever you want to do and we will see how far you will go. Stop blaming someone but read the bible for yourself. Christianity is personal as salvation is personal. The bible says in Philippians 2:12, “Work out your own salvation with Godly reverence”, the pastor will not do that for you.

Talking about masturbation; Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart”. This means before you go on to either rape someone or masturbate you have already committed the sin in your heart. Pastor Chris was saying it’s your heart that needs to be sanctified (cleaned by the word of God and by the Holy Spirit). For example if someone STEALS bread in a store then EATS the bread – which one is the sin? Is it the stealing of bread or the eating of the bread? Obviously it’s the stealing of bread. According to God’s standards sin is committed in the heart even before you go on to do the actual physical action. After you get born again and receive the Holy Spirit, He (the Holy Spirit) will be grieved if you get involved in unclean things because the bible says touch no unclean thing. On the other hand if you are not born again you won’t feel convicted by doing wrong things because your heart is waxed gross (it’s heavy).

This what Paul said to the Philippians, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you”.

Gospel means good news, no one is going to tell you not to smoke but what we will do is to preach the gospel because Jesus did not say to preach sin but to preach the gospel and that gospel is the word of God and that word of God is Light and when it comes it will drive away the darkness and anything associated with it. Didn’t Paul say, “When I was a child I did childish things but when I grew up I put childish things away”. So if you are still battling with whether it’s a sin to masturbate or not you are a baby anyway in the things of God, you need to grow up. Come up hither.

Finally, the bible admonishes us in Colossians 3:16 to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly and in verse 17 it says to do ALL things in the name of the Lord whether in DEED or in WORD. So study the word of God for yourself and you will see your life change for the good. When you know the word for yourself you will stop blaming other people for your actions and failures. The issue though is if you do not have the word of Christ in you, you will not be able to do all things in the Lord.

With this I therefore say, “God bless you all”.
