As Christians do we live by the law or by grace?
Understand this: Abraham was there before the Law. In part one of this series we will talk about our roots (blessings) in Abraham. The law was added after the promise to Abraham had already been made (Romans 5:20 NIV).
Part Two: we will talk about our Righteousness in Christ Jesus
The bible says in Galatians 3:7-16 that we are the children of Abraham by faith and if you be in Christ you are Abraham’s seed. In vs 16, he says ‘seeds’ not as to many but one meaning Christ. God is not the author of confusion if you get confused someone confused you but my prayer for you is that you understand this in the name of Jesus, Amen. Christ is the seed of Abraham. So if you are in Christ you are Abraham’s seed and an heir according to the promise (Galatians 3:29). What promise?
For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith – Romans 4:13.
The promise was made to Abraham and his seed after him. Genesis 17:6-8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. In Genesis 12:3 God said to Abraham i will make you great, so Abraham did not make himself great but God made him great (SO WHY DO YOU TRY TO MAKE YOURSELF GREAT – its all vanity). But see here Abraham was still in the realm of flesh and coundn’t see what God was talking about because he had no child (he was still considering his present situation), only servants he had. Until he got it by faith through his spirit he couldn’t receive the blessing. Brothers and sisters you need to live your life from the realm of the spirit otherwise you will never get what God has in store for you. To be carnally minded is death (death in anything you touch) and to be spiritually minded is life and peace (life in everything you touch, when money comes your way it will have staying poweer and you will have wisdom to put it into good use). When money comes into the hands of the wicked it cries to leave their hands because they are wicked. So never envy the lifestyle of an unbeliever because you don’t know whats going on with their life.
Back to our topic. In Genesis 15:5 God knew Abraham did not understand him in chapter 12 so he took him outside and asked him to count the stars and he tried but could not. Then God said ‘so shall thy seed be’. And the bible tells us that Abraham believed God for the first time and it was accounted to him for righteousness. So he got it by faith – Abraham died in faith, Christ had not yet come, thats why when Jesus defeated Satan in hell he took the keys and opened hades and brought out Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all those who died believeing in God and took them to heaven (Ephesians 4:8-10). This time Abraham refused to stagger at the promise of God but was strong in faith giving glory to God. Don’t consider your present situation because it came to pass and it’s subject to change – 2 Corinthians 4:15-18.
Now the bible tells us that we are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:6-8) through faith. Faith in who? In Christ. When the gospel came to you it imparted faith into your spirit. This means every christian has faith, all you need is to grow it and exercise it – i mean put it into practice otherwise your faith will be weak in muscles. Lets analyze Ephesians 2:8>>For by grace you are saved through FAITH and not of yourselves: it is the GIFT of God<<.
I will use John 1:17 to explain this, The law came by Moses and Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ. Notice it doesn’t say by Jesus but by Jesus Christ the resurrected one or the Messiah. Before his death Jesus lived under the Old testament and was not yet Jesus the Christ. After his resurrection Jesus he became the Messiah (the New testament came into force after his death – Hebrews 9:15-16) even though the Jews didn’t believe he was the messiah and even now some of them don’t. If you are not a Jew, you were a gentile at one time and you became a Christian so you were not part of the old covenant that God gave to the Jews this means the law was not given to you. This covenant was based on conditions of obeying the Law of Moses. The law as designed to give life because it gave life to Moses – Ephesians 3:7-8. But if you failed to obeyed the law you couldn’t enjoy the blessings of the covenant. God realizing the weakness of the first covenant wrought the new one in Christ Jesus and its a better testament with better promises (Hebrews 8:6). Read Ephesians 2:15 you will notice that Paul made us to understand that Jesus abolished the law and made in himself of twain one new man (the new man here refers to the New Creation). The law was fulfilled in one word which is love (Galatians 5:14). What love?
For God so loved the world that he gave… John 3:16. When he loved he gave. Wow, so when you say you love someone you give. Ephesians 2:8 “…it is the gift of God”.
2 Corinthians 3:6, “…the letter killeth but the spirit gives life” – The law which is the word of his judgment kills but the Spirit gives life.
COMPARISON: LAW & GRACE
The law demands whereas grace gives
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
1 PETER 2:9
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
In Exodus the people then were given conditions to obey God and keep His commandments before they could become a peculiar people, kings and priests. But in the New covenant in 1 Peter 2:9 it says, “But ye are… already not that you shall, you are“, no condition attached to it. If you notice also according to Ephesians 2:12 the gentiles were not part of the old covenant (they were not a people, without hope, without God) but now in Christ Jesus you are a people and have hope and peace.
32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
Dearly beloved i commend you to God and to the word of his grace (not the word of his judgment which is the law), which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance. For you to receive your inheritance you have to be built up first in the Word of God. The Word of God will build you up in your finances, in your health, in your relationship, in your marriage and in your life. After you are built up you will be ready to receive your inheritance from God. Everyone has his inheritance but build yourself first. Grow as a christian, participate in your church don’t be a spectator be a player, be part of all the activities, be in it, be involved, win souls to Christ he will surely bless you.
Finally brethren, remember the words of Solomon in Proverbs 4:7, “ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding”. You get wisdom from the Word of God, that way you will be building yourself up then in Proverbs 24:3 the bible tells us that through wisdom a house is build by understanding it is established and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with ALL precious and pleasant riches. So don’t search for riches search the scriptures and you will see a great transformation take place in your life.
May God bless you mightily.
